Summer for fraternities and sororities across the country usually includes retreats, national convention gatherings, and the opportunity to recognize chapters for their work during the previous academic year. While not every chapter within the Collegiate Panhellenic Council (CPC) held a national convention, many received awards from their peers in areas of both programming and academics.

Here is a look at the honors brought home by Georgia Tech sororities this summer.

  • At the national Phi Mu convention held in Las Vegas, Nevada, Georgia Tech’s chapter (Theta Zeta) won the Carnation Cup. This award is Phi Mu’s highest honor for maintaining high standards in chapter operations, programming, and public relations. The Tech chapter also earned an Honorable Mention for the Zenobia Wooten Keller Sisterhood Development Award, and one member was recognized with the Gerald and Sheldon Pollack Award for outstanding individual achievement and philanthropic leadership.
  • Alpha Chi Omega (Epsilon Phi chapter) won the Seeking the Heights Award for excellence in facility operations and sustainability initiatives.
  • Members of Alpha Gamma Delta (Gamma Phi chapter) collected the Activities Award at their convention in San Antonio, Texas, for having the chapter with the highest percentage of members involved and serving in leadership roles in student organizations.
  • Alpha Xi Delta (Gamma Eta chapter): won the AmaXIng Challenge Grant from their headquarters to bolster their annual Step It Up 5k – to be hosted on Sept. 30, 2018. This grant assists chapters in growing their events and fundraising efforts in support of Autism Speaks.
  • Zeta Tau Alpha (Iota Theta chapter) members came home from their convention in Orlando, Florida, having earned Crown Chapter status for surpassing national standards and the Silver Award in the category of Membership Enrichment programming.
  • Alpha Delta Pi (Zeta Omega chapter) had two members, Pooja Juvekar and Riley Geran, honored nationally as top Emerging Leaders.
  • A member of Alpha Omega Epsilon (Sigma Chapter) won the National Foundation Scholarship from their headquarters.
  • Alpha Delta Chi won the Chapter Strength Award from their national office.
  • Alpha Phi (Iota Mu chapter) earned Excellence in Philanthropy within their region for their overall philanthropic efforts that raised awareness and resources for cardiac disease prevention and treatment.

“The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and the Collegiate Panhellenic Council are so proud that almost the entire CPC community was honored for their hard work,” said Amanda Fishman, fraternity and sorority life coordinator. Fishman noted that Kappa Alpha Theta has received campus awards, but was not eligible to earn national or regional awards at their biannual convention because they were a colonizing chapter for one of the two assessment years. “Sorority life is not just about awards, but these honors are one way to prove the strength and purpose of how sisterhood is cultivated in their organizations.”
