P2P students win big at Peach State LSAMP Conference!!

The annual Peach State LSAMP "STEM Innovators" conference was held in Marietta,GA in October 2017. Hosted by Kennesaw State University, the Peach State LSAMP alliance is comprIsed of the following institutions: Georgia Tech, University of Georgia, Fort Valley State University, Savannah State University, Georgia State University-Perimeter College, and Kennesaw State University.  LSAMP is a National Science Foundation funded initiative to increase the number of qualified under represented minority students who pursue STEM degrees. The Georgia Tech chapter funds 40 students as part of the larger Peer 2 Peer mentoring program. The LSAMP scholars participate in undergraduate research, professional development, and peer mentoring. 

This October, 20 GT-LSAMP students attended the conference and 6 students presented their research. All 6 students were presented with awards. They are: 

  • 1st place oral                   TECH/EE/ECE                 Jianni Adkisson 

  • 1st place poster               BioE/ChemE/AgricE        Kayla Dean 

  • 1st place poster               CEE/ME/AE                     Michelle Myrick 

  • 2nd place poster             BioE/ChemE/AgricE        Joy Brown 

  • 2nd place poster             TECH/EE/ECE                Surafel Argaw 

  • 3rd place oral                   CEE/ME/AE                             Tamera Flowers
