Fall 2017 Future Tech

Primary tabs

Georgia Tech has invited 150 local middle-school students (grades 6-8) from groups underrepresented in STEM to participate in hands-on activities. Future Tech aims to make science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines and concepts understandable, relevant, and interesting to middle-school students and applicable in their everyday lives. Parents will receive information about academic and financial preparation.

  • Hands-On Demonstrations: Students will engage in demonstrations of engineering concepts, robotics, electrical circuits, DNA extractions, solar-powered cars, and the slimy world of polymers. These will be conducted by Georgia Tech students and faculty, as well as industry professionals.
  • College/Career Panel: Speakers will provide information on STEM careers, including academic preparation and career opportunities.
  • Parents' Session: Georgia Tech admissions, financial aid, and other personnel will discuss how to prepare academically and financially for college. Parents will receive information and application web links related to Georgia Tech STEM programs.
  • Partial Scholarships: Several partial scholarships will be given to enable students to attend week-long STEM summer camps offered by the Georgia Tech Center for Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC).
