Office of International Education Update

Primary tabs

During the 2016-17 academic year, 188 Georgia Tech students interned abroad in 45+ countries through Tech’s Global Internship Program (GIP). Housed in the Office of International Education, GIP facilitates overseas internships for Tech students with the purpose of allowing students to gain practical work experience in their disciplines while developing critical cross-cultural skills. Global internships take place throughout the year, and can last between 6 weeks and one year.

While many overseas internships take place in traditional corporate settings, students also do research internships, government internships, and service-based internships.

Most students who intern abroad are juniors and seniors, with prior internship, research, or study abroad experience. First- and second-year students with an interest in interning abroad are encouraged to seek advising early, as there are things students can start doing to position themselves for an international internship.

We encourage students who are interested in interning abroad to attend the upcoming Global Internship Fair, taking place on Thursday, September 28, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. This fair will feature employers and organizations hiring overseas interns, returned global interns showcasing their experiences and answering questions from potential participants, and resources that are helpful to students seeking overseas employment.
