What is the Student Alumni Association?

The Student Alumni Association (SAA) is a student organization, sponsored by the Georgia Tech Alumni   Association. Launched in the fall of 2010, the Student Alumni Association strives to connect current students to the alumni network, instill a sense of Tech pride and spirit, and teach students the value of giving back to the Institute. With over 6,900 members, SAA is the largest student organization on campus, with a diverse membership ncluding undergraduate, Master’s and PhD students.

SAA connects alumni, among whom there are K-12 teachers,  to current students in a variety of ways including a Mentor Jackets alumni/student mentoring program, Get Ready for the Real World educational series, Expert Jackets and Dinner Jackets events. In the last two years SAA has made over 50,000 connections between students and alumni to develop networks, share experiences and promote the Tech community.

What is Mentor Jackets?

Mentor Jackets is an alumni-to-student mentoring program sponsored by the Georgia Tech Alumni Association and the Georgia Tech Student Alumni Association (SAA). The program has two components: 1:1 Mentoring and Minute Mentoring.

What is 1:1 Mentoring?

The 1:1 Mentoring Program partners current SAA members with Tech alumni from Atlanta and around the world in year-long dedicated mentoring relationships. Mentoring pairs develop their partnerships through face-to-face interactions, e-mails, telephone conversations, video chats, special mentoring events, and programming   exclusively designed for Mentor Jackets.

What is Minute Mentoring?

The Minute Mentoring Program is a less formal option, connecting students with Georgia Tech alumni for personal and professional development opportunities. Minute mentors may be contacted by current Tech students to serve as a one-time resource for things like exploring majors, informational interviews, resume reviews, mock   interviews, etc.

Who can be an alumni mentor?

From recent grads to retirees, all alumni are encouraged to join – and thanks to our e-mentoring program, you don’t even have to live in Atlanta!

Why participate as a Mentor Jacket?

Mentoring a current Tech student is an easy and impactful way to stay connected with Tech, give back to your alma mater no matter where you live, and make a real difference in someone’s life. Mentors can extend their current Georgia Tech network through connections with fellow mentors and mentees, as well as gain a fresh perspective from the experiences of their mentees.

How do I register as an alum?

It’s easy! Just visit www.gtmentorjackets.com and complete the alumni mentor registration form. Registration for each academic year opens July 1st and pairing begins in late August.
