Bamburowski Named Director of Academic and Research Faculty Affairs

Primary tabs

David Bamburowski has been named director of Academic and Research Faculty Affairs and will assume the role on Aug. 1.

“After working in admissions and enrollment management positions for more than 14 years, I’m looking forward to learning from faculty what we can do to better serve them during their time at Georgia Tech,” Bamburowski said.

Bamburowski has served as director of Graduate Studies at Georgia Tech since 2014 where he has worked with closely with the campus community to develop programming to enroll and support graduate students on campus including Grad Groups, an extended orientation program for new students.

Prior to his work in Graduate Studies, Bamburowski served as senior assistant director of Admissions at Tech. He earned his bachelor’s in business administration with a specialization in human resources and master’s in business education from Bowling Green State University.

The new position was created following the merger of the offices of Academic and Research Faculty Affairs, which occurred last fall.

“The goal of the merger was to better leverage resources and expertise to better serve our faculty and the community who supports them,” explained Monique Tavares, associate vice president for Research Administration.

The director will be a dual report to Tavares and Leslie N. Sharp, interim vice provost for Graduate Education and Faculty Development (GEFD) and associate vice provost for GEFD.

“Thanks to David’s history at Tech, he brings existing relationships with faculty and staff, and a deep knowledge of the Institute to the table,” Sharp said. “These characteristics will be invaluable as he serves in this new role.”

A national search for a new director of Graduate Studies is in progress. The position will now be on the Academic Professional track as a non-tenure-track member of the Academic Faculty.

Until a permanent director is named, Marla Bruner, who is currently the assistant director of Graduate Studies, will serve as the interim director.
