We invite you to join us for this public talk by Dr. Sarah Brackmann, finalist for the position of Service Learning & Partnerships Specialist in the Center for Serve-Learn-Sustain.

Sarah Brackmann directs the Office of Community-Engaged Learning at Southwestern University. Dr. Brackmann completed her Ph.D. in Higher Education from the University of Georgia, where her research focused on the impact of decreased public funding on community engagement programs. She earned a Masters of Arts in Higher Education and Student Affairs with a concentration in service-learning from The Ohio State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Xavier University (OH).

Brackmann’s passion for community engagement began as an AmeriCorps*VISTA at Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU). At OLLU, Brackmann worked with faculty, staff, students, and community partners to coordinate academic service-learning. After finishing two years of national service, she continued her work in community engagement as a teaching assistant at The Ohio State University, the assistant director of student involvement for community service at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and the graduate assistant for the University of Georgia’s Office of Service-Learning.

She is active in several service-learning and community engagement professional organizations. She has presented on the Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement, co-curriculur community service, and the assessment of service-learning student outcomes. She was an Editorial Fellow for the International Association of Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE), and has also presented several papers at the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) and IARSLCE’s conferences focused on the intersections of neoliberalism and community engagement. In addition, she serves as secretary of the United Way of Williamson County.

She has also been acknowledged for her work in the field of higher education. The Ohio State University’s Student Personnel Assistantship Program recognized Brackmann as the 2008 Emerging Professional, and the American College Personnel Association- Commission on Student Involvement awarded her the 2008 Outstanding New Professional. She also received the Georgia Association of Women in Higher Education’s 2010 Louise McBee Scholarship for her leadership in the field of higher education. She earned IARSCLE’s honorable mention for dissertation of the year in 2012.
