CRC Annual Shutdown: What You Should Know

Primary tabs

The Campus Recreation Complex (CRC) does not experience the same volume during the summer as it does during the academic year. This is precisely why a summer shutdown is an opportune moment for the CRC to close its doors and get to work upgrading, maintaining and polishing its state-of-the-art facility to prepare for students return in August. Therefore, the CRC will be closed August 5 through August 13, 2017.

There are a few exciting projects behind this year’s shutdown that members can expect to see. The newly installed flooring on the fourth floors will welcome a fresh polyurethane coating. The track on the fifth floor will receive a complete overhaul that includes re-designing the aesthetic, and installing Achieve PLAETechä rubber flooring which is the world leader in athletic flooring. The 16-year-old floors in the fitness center will also be replaced with Achieve PLAETechä rubber flooring which is designed for maximum shock absorption and energy return. The CRC will switch out the lights in the fitness center to LEDs to offer an environmentally conscious way to illuminate the fitness area.

Of course alongside the exciting new projects, the necessary upkeep will occur. The CRC team will work diligently together to paint chipping walls, pressure wash stadium seating, shine windows, shampoo carpets, deep clean floors, wipe down fitness equipment, and more. Every nook and corner of the building gets attention during the shutdown to ensure the building is in top shape for fall semester.

“It’s an opportunity for us to re-energize the building so that it is at its peak performance for everyone,” said Operations Manager, Rod Bolden. “We want people to come back and be amazed and what we have done to the place.”

Bolden also mentioned that during shutdown, every area is checked for safety concerns. If those issues are discovered they receive immediate attention so that the facility is safe and secure for everyone. During shut down, nothing goes unnoticed by the CRC team.

“We pay attention to every detail imaginable, and everyone puts forth their best effort,” he said.

Due to the floor renovations, the CRC will remain partially open with limited access July 29 through August 4 and again August 14 through August 15. For those who still wish to workout, the CRC kept that in mind during planning. Freshens Café and CRC Room 240 will both be transformed into modified work out areas for members to utilize on those dates. Freshens Café will have an assortment of cardio equipment including rowing machines, spin bikes, elliptical machines, and climbers. Room 240 will be equipped with mats, kettlebells, free weights, benches, resistance bands, Bosu balls, and jump ropes. CRC Room 249 is reserved for fitness classes such as yoga and Bootcamp. These areas will close on August 16 for clean-up. A membership and Buzzcard will be required for access.

McAuley Aquatic Center will observe its regular summer hours July 29 through August 5. From August 14 through August 16, the Crawford leisure pool will observe its summer hours, but the competition pool will be closed.

The CRC appreciates your patience and understanding during shut down as they make enhancements. They are encouraging everyone to stop in to experience the new floors, lighting fixtures, and exceptionally clean building when the doors are reopened on August 17.
