Internship Description:

Function of Agency

GDEcD is the state’s sales and marketing arm: the lead agency for attracting new business investment, encouraging the expansion of existing industry and small businesses, locating new markets for Georgia products, attracting tourists to Georgia and promoting the state as a location for film and digital entertainment projects, as well as planning and mobilizing state resources for economic development.

GDEcD represents the state’s marketing, communications and economic development efforts worldwide through its work with Georgia’s international representatives, participation in international trade shows, bilateral cooperation agreements and hosting and organizing business missions in-state and abroad.

Practical Experience Gained from Internship

The intern will apply principles learned in school through practical hands-on work assignments in international and domestic marketing and communications, project logistics and management, event planning, international protocol, and international business acumen. This will be a great opportunity to learn about economic development from the ground up.

Duties of Intern and Desired Qualifications:

The intern will assist with marketing, product development, event planning, and logistics for the account managers of the Marketing and Communications Division, supporting marketing needs for GDEcD’s industry-specific Global Commerce, International Relations and international trade teams. The intern will also conduct international and domestic business research and participate in the development of the team’s marketing tools, such as collateral pieces, social media updates and information packets. Other projects may include company, city and regional research; proofreading documents and updating documents for new format and design; preparing shipments to mission destinations; helping to implement new processes; organizing and editing briefing books; and assisting with incoming international missions, delegations and meetings.

The internship opportunity is open to undergraduate or graduate college students or individuals who have graduated in the past year or less. The ideal candidates will be working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in international business, marketing or a closely related field. Foreign language ability, experience living abroad, and a meticulous eye for graphic design desired. He or she must be highly attentive to detail, be able to write clearly and compellingly, have an understanding of basic marketing and branding concepts, be exceedingly responsible and reliable, have the ability to multi-task and have a high degree of self-initiative. Microsoft Office proficiency is required.

Parking is reimbursed. Location: GDEcD is located on the Georgia Tech campus at the corner of Spring and Fifth Street and is Marta accessible. Supervisor: Dee Ford, Sr. Global Account Manager, Marketing and Communications Duties:

Work Hours: Part time, 20 hours/week Afternoons or Mornings, flexible This posting is for an unpaid internship.

Dress Code: GDEcD’s dress code is business or business casual. Casual pants and golf shirt or button down and casual tops are acceptable, but slacks/skirts with dress shirts/blouses and jackets are preferred for some events. Note that denim (with the exception of casual Fridays), T-shirts with printed slogans/logos or other printed advertisements, patterns or text (concert, travel or event t-shirts, etc.); tennis or other athletic shoes; flip-flops and other similar casual attire is not permitted unless approved in advance for a special circumstance. Lunch and Breaks: Full-time interns must take a lunch period of a minimum 30 minutes and up to one hour. Two 15 minute breaks (one in the morning, one in the afternoon) may be granted for interns working full (8 hour) days.
