Intellectual Property Seminar Series: Patent Pro Bono Program

Are you an inventor, a student, or a small business owner who has limited resources and needs help applying for a patent on an invention? If so, you may be eligible to receive pro bono ("for free") attorney representation through the nationwide Pro Bono Program. Collaborating with the USPTO and Georgia Lawyers for the Arts, the Georgia Tech PTRC, Georgia Tech Library is organizing this seminar on Pro Bono program. Please join Mr. Grant Corboy, a patent attorney from the USPTO, and Ms. Meredith Ragains, an attorney from the Georgia Lawyers for the Arts, for an overview of the patent Pro Bono program and for a discussion on how to obtain help in preparing and filing your patent application.

Speaker Bio:

Mr. William Grant Corboy III joined the Office of Enrollment Discipline (OED) as a Patent Attorney in 2016. As a member of the Patent Pro Bono Team, he is dedicated to making sure that all inventors have access to the patent system, including those who are financially under-resourced. In addition to his Patent Pro Bono responsibilities, Mr. Corboy also serves as a Staff Attorney investigating discipline and enrollment matters. Mr. Corboy was a Primary Patent Examiner for the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and, prior to joining the USPTO in 2010, he worked for fifteen years in industry as a design engineer, project manager and government contracts manager with DuPont and Lockheed Martin.

Mr. Corboy is a member of the Maryland bar, and he is registered to practice before the USPTO. He graduated, cum laude, from The University of Baltimore School of Law and received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and his Masters of Science in Structural Engineering from the University of Delaware.

Due to special situation on highways, we encourage you to use public transportation. If taking MARTA, you can get off at the mid-town station, and then catch the free Tech Trolley to Atlantic Dr. Walk north on Atlantic Dr. and EBB entrance is to your left.
