USA Diving Synchronized National Championships

Primary tabs

The nation’s best divers, including seven members of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team, will be in Atlanta for the USA Diving Synchronized National Championships to be held April 12-15 at Georgia Tech’s McAuley Aquatic Center, the site of the aquatic events for the 1996 Olympic Games. Divers will be competing for national titles and the chance to represent Team USA in international events later this year.

Competition will be conducted on 10-meter platform and 3-meter springboard in the “open” (men’s, women’s and mixed events) division, and those divers will be looking to earn spots on Team USA for the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. The United States won silver medals in men’s synchronized 3-meter and men’s synchronized 10-meter at the Rio Olympic Games last year, with the U.S. diving team holding its 2016 pre-Olympic training camp in Atlanta. 2016 medalists Sam Dorman, Michael Hixon and Steele Johnson as well as Olympians Kassidy Cook, Amy Cozad Magaña, Jessica Parratto and Katrina Young are all expected to compete at the national championships.

Platform and 3-meter springboard competition will be held in the 14-18 age group for both boys and girls, while 13-and-under divers will have the opportunity to vie for synchronized diving national championships on 1-meter, 3-meter and the 5-meter platform.  The 14-18 springboard events will serve as a selection for the 2017 Junior Pan American Championships in Canada.  Several divers from the Atlanta Diving Association and the Georgia Diving Club will be participating in the junior events.

Competition will begin at 9 a.m. each day. All-session passes are available for $40 for adults and $30 for senior citizens (65 and older) and youth (4-12). Single-day tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and youth. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
