The Week Ahead: Thanksgiving Edition

Georgia Tech will be closed from Nov. 24 – 25 in observance of Thanksgiving, and students get Wednesday, Nov. 23, off from classes. 

Take this time to get off campus and see how Atlanta does Turkey Day.

Garden Lights Holiday Show

The annual holiday lights are on display at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. The sixth season of Garden Lights features a new Walk of Flames display and a Tunnel of Light. Get in the holiday spirit while enjoying the outdoors.  

Skate Atlantic Station 2016

  • Through Feb. 14, 2017

Visit Atlantic Station for Atlanta’s largest outdoor ice skating rink. General admission is $13 and skates are available to rent for $3. The rink is open Monday through Thursday from 4 to 10 p.m. and noon to 11 p.m. on weekends.

Holiday in the Park

Six Flags is transformed into a winter wonderland with lights and holiday displays. This event features holiday shows, music, food, and activities, and of course all of Six Flags Over Georgia's rides and attractions. Highlights of Holiday in the Park include the Peppermint Plaza and Main Street Christmas displays. 

Fox Theatre Holiday Performances

Attend one of the following shows at the Fox Theatre. The historic site was established in 1928 and provides the quintessential setting for a holiday performance.

Volunteer Opportunities

Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon and 5K

Atlanta Track Club with Atlanta Mission are joining forces to sponsor the annual Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon and 5K. The half marathon begins at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K starts at 8 a.m. If you’re not a runner, consider volunteering at the race. Sign up for a shift here.  

Books for Africa: Hands on Atlanta

Volunteer with Hands on Atlanta to sort and pack books to send to African countries. Volunteers can register for two or more hours of service. Use the link above to sign up.

Thanksgiving Feasts

Veggie Jackets Thanksgiving

Enjoy a potluck style vegetarian meal before the break. Join Veggie Jackets through OrgSync to attend.

Georgia Tech Catholic Center Thanksgiving Dinner

All students, faculty, and staff are invited to come to a free, traditional Thanksgiving Dinner at the Georgia Tech Catholic Center. Mass will be held at 12 p.m. followed by dinner at 1 p.m. RSVP here.

Waffle House

All Waffle House locations are open 365 days of a year, giving you the chance to enjoy some holiday hash browns.

Starbucks

Most Starbucks locations will be open on Thanksgiving.
