Germany a Popular Destination for Internships

Primary tabs

The School of Modern Languages’ German group, in conjunction with the Office of International Education (OIE), held its annual German Day event on October 18th. The purpose for the event was not just to expose current students to German culture, but also to give students an opportunity to learn more about internship opportunities abroad and how they can take their education beyond the classroom. Several German companies, including Porsche, Volkswagon, and Seimens, were in attendance, and attendees heard about how internship opportunities have benefited Georgia Tech students both academically and professionally.

At Georgia Tech, Germany is by far the most popular destination for STEM students who intern abroad. According to data from the Global Internship Program in OIE, Germany had the most interns from Georgia Tech (40 students) in the 2015-2016 academic year, and this number has been steadily increasing. According to Allison Noffsinger, the Global Internship Advisor in the Office of International Education, “Germany is not only a popular destination among students studying foreign language and international affairs, but it is the most popular destination for study abroad and international internship opportunities out of any other country that is partnered with Georgia Tech.”

The participation of current and past students, as well as several industry representatives and professional sponsors, helped to make German Day 2016 a tremendous success. For a full description of German Day events can be found at: http://www.modlangs.gatech.edu/news/item/574581.
