GT Mock Trial Team Places First at the 10th Annual Carolina Classic Invitational at Elon University

Primary tabs

The beginning of the GT Mock Trial season began this past weekend at the 10th Annual Carolina Classic Invitational at Elon University in North Carolina.

GT Mock Trial (GTMT) sent two squads to compete this weekend at Elon, which had a tournament field made up of teams who all annually compete in the National Championship, including last year's national runner-up UVA, as well as national top 10 teams from Furman, UGA, and Duke.  This weekend, Georgia Tech's "A" and "B" teams went head-to-head with these national teams and came out ahead against all of them, proving that last year's success was no fluke.

GTMT "A" squad, which is composed of team president Sarah Stebbins, Ali Foreman, Troy Kleber, Chandler Matz, Megan Miller, Emma Smith, and Sutton Birth, went undefeated at 7-0-1 against teams from UGA, UVA, Duke, and Furman.  This undefeated record placed GT in First Place in the entire tournament, and crowned them as champions of the 10th Annual Carolina Classic.  Ms. Stebbins and Ms. Foreman were honored with Outstanding Attorney and Witness awards respectively at the conclusion of the tournament.

GTMT "B" squad, which is composed of four returning members and five first-year mock trial students, went 5-3 over the weekend against Penn State, Washington & Lee, Duke, and UVA.  This was strong enough to place GTMT in 5th place. GTMT "B" is comprised of captain Harsha Sridhar, Carolyn Stanek, Ben Felder, John Eng, Pranav Gandham, Maddie Brabrook, Hari Tiwari, Malavika Rao, and Katie Burdette.

GT was the only school at the competition to place two teams in the top 5, and this was the first time that GTMT has placed two teams in the top 5 at the same tournament in at least the past five years.  By placing first in the tournament, each member of the GT "A" squad was awarded a $10,000.00 scholarship to Elon University School of Law, if they apply and are admitted to the school.

GTMT will compete in their second tournament of the year this coming weekend at the UGA Classic City Invitational Tournament, which is being jointly hosted by GT and UGA this year on GT's campus in D.M. Smith and Skiles.  GTMT "A" and "C" will be competing in the tournament, and hope to be able to report more success and good results for the team after the coming weekend!

Join us in celebrating the hard work and success of these great students!
