Marc Tsurumaki presents Sectional Intensities.
Marc Tsurumaki is the Principal and Founding Partner of LTL Architects, will present a selection of the firm’s recent work in relation to their research on the role of section in architecture. Culminating in the publication of ‘Manual of Section,’ the lecture will address the history and potentials of section as a generative technique, focusing on it’s evolution from early modernism forward, and on sectional strategies as they are deployed in LTL’s built and speculative designs.
Lewis.Tsurumaki.Lewis (LTL Architects PLLC) is an award-winning architecture partnership founded in 1997 with Paul Lewis and David J. Lewis and located in New York City. LTL Architects was the recipient of the 2007 National Design Award from the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum and was selected as one of six American architectural firms featured in the U.S. Pavilion at the 2004 Venice Architecture Biennale. Their work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Heinz Architectural Center at the Carnegie Museum of Art. The principals are co-authors of the monographs Intensities (Princeton Architectural Press, 2012) and Opportunistic Architecture (Princeton Architectural Press, 2008) along with Situation Normal....Pamphlet Architecture #21 (Princeton Architectural Press, 1998). Their newest publication, entitled Manual of Section, was just released in August of 2016.
Marc Tsurumaki is a licensed architect and received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Virginia and a Master of Architecture from Princeton University.
