The European Union Center of Excellence (EUCE) welcomes Dr. Alison Holmes (Yale University) for a discussion about the special relationship between The United Kingdom and The United States of America.

Dr Alison Holmes is currently the Pierre Keller Fellow of Transatlantic Studies and Lecturer in Political Science at Yale University and teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses on UK/US relations since the Cold War. Her PhD from the LSE is in International Relations with a focus on the impact of globalization on domestic politics and the development and communication of political ideas through time. She is also an Associate Fellow at the Rothermere
American Institute at Oxford University and a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust History Fellow.

Before starting her academic career, Holmes worked in the UK for 21 years including ten years for the third party of British politics, the Liberal Democrats, running both their 1992 and 1997 General Election Campaigns under the leadership of Rt Hon Paddy Ashdown MP. She also worked for the BBC in Corporate Communication Strategy, for Burson‐Marsteller a major lobbying PR firm, and as the Managing Director of British American Business, the largest transatlantic business membership organization. Just prior to leaving the UK, Holmes was speechwriter and communications advisor to the US Ambassador to the UK and combined this with her current research: the role of the Ambassador in transatlantic Georgia Institute of Technology's European Union Center of Excellence Speaker Series relations. This work is the basis of two ongoing book projects, both under contract with Palgrave Macmillan.
