We invite you to join us (via video conference) in this Transatlantic Leaders Forum Event with Jerzy Buzek - President of the European Parliament. The discussion title is 'The New European Parliament: Politics and Power in Today's European Union'

Jerzy Buzek has been President of the European Parliament since July 2009. He is the first figure from a Central and Eastern European country to be elected to a major European Union post. A founding member of the Polish Solidarity movement, he served as prime minister of Poland from 1997 to 2001. Dr. Buzek, an engineer by training, is Professor at Opole University of Technology in Poland. His priorities as EP President include strengthening Transatlantic relations, promoting closer links with Europe's Eastern partners, improving energy security, defending human rights, and successfully introducing the new legislative and budgetary powers extended to the European Parliament under the Lisbon Treaty. Whilst in Washington, on his first visit to the U.S. as EP President, he will be meeting with senior Administration and Congressional leaders, as well as opening the European Parliament's new liaison office in the city.
