2017-2018 Core Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program Competition Opens

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers teaching, research or combination teaching/research awards in over 125 countries for the 2017-2018 academic year.Opportunities are available for college and university faculty and administrators as well as for professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars and many others. Other highlights from nearly 500 awards offered in this year’s program include:

New Participating Country: Sudan
After nearly 20 years of inactivity, universities in Sudan are eager to engage U.S. scholars in developing partnerships and reforming the quality of education across all disciplines. Sudan offers an opportunity for cutting edge research in a variety of disciplines, as well as opportunities to increase the institutional capacity of the university systems.

Global Scholar Award
Now in its second year, the Global Scholar Award allows scholars the opportunity to research or teach/research in two or three countries in two or three different world regions. The award length can be from four to six months and Scholars may split the grant into two or three visits over one or two consecutive years. Projects are welcome in all disciplines, as well as those with an interdisciplinary focus.

Postdoctoral and Early Career Awards
The Fulbright Scholar Program presents excellent opportunities for recently minted scholars to deepen their expertise, to acquire new skills, to work with additional resources and to make connections with others in their fields, all while serving as cultural ambassadors. In addition to primary research or teaching activities, postdoctoral and early career scholars will be asked to give public talks, mentor students, and otherwise engage with the host country academic community. Postdoctoral awards are available in all fields of study, from STEM, to the arts, humanities and social sciences.

Cross-Strait Studies Award 
The Cross-Strait Studies award provides U.S. Scholars the opportunity to conduct research on contemporary issues concerning the relationship between mainland China and Taiwan. This award also allows for additional short-term travel to Hong Kong.

Fulbright-Schuman Innovation Award
The Fulbright-Schuman Innovation Grant is for Scholars interested in policy oriented research in one to two EU member states. Preference is given for proposals focused on EU or U.S.-EU approaches on the issues of data privacy and protection.

Cultural Preservation and Heritage Award
The Cultural Preservation and Heritage award provides U.S. Scholars the opportunity to teach conservation science, cultural resources management, heritage preservation and museology in Jordan.
