Langley's Latest Book Focuses on Logistics and Supply Chain Management

Primary tabs

In the eighth and most recent edition of Supply Chain Management: A Logistics Perspective, C. John Langley, Jr. and his co-authors focus on the relationship between logistics and supply chain management and how the nature of business is changing overall.

In this new edition, previously titled The Management of Business Logistics, the text is divided into five parts and provides a balance between logistics theory and practical applications. Part I provides a framework for understanding supply chain management and some of its most important related components. Strategic factors are the focus of Part II, while Part III addresses the key process areas within supply chain management. Part IV draws the reader into the world of supply chain planning, sourcing, and operations. The final section, Part V, explores the major macro trends that will impact the future of logistics and supply chain management, as well as strategies for staying competitive in the future. Each chapter opens with a supply chain profile that offers the reader a glimpse of real-world companies, people, and events that will make the world of supply chain management come alive. Practical information on the application of supply chain management is also explored with examples of hands-on managerial experience that relate to the content of each of the sixteen chapters.

This textbook is required for the Logistics Management module in the Certified in Transportation and Logistics professional certification program offered by the American Society for Transportation Logistics. However, any professional or student in the fields of business and international logistics will benefit from the book's discussion on strategic factors and processes in global supply chains, planning, sourcing, and operations.

Dr. Langley is a professor of Supply Chain Management in the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech and Director of Supply Chain Executive Programs in Georgia Tech's The Supply Chain and Logistics Institute. Previously, he served for 28 years as the John H. "Red" Dove Distinguished Professor in Logistics and Transportation at the University of Tennessee. Langley is a former president of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) and has co-authored two other major textbooks. He received a B.S., M.B.A., and Ph.D. from Penn State University in mathematics, finance, and business logistics, respectively.
