ISyE Students Recognized at*2008 Honors Day

During the 2008 Honors Day luncheon, several exceptional students from the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering were recognized for their outstanding scholastic achievement as well as their contributions to the School and the community. The awards and scholarships were presented during a ceremony that took place on April 17, 2008. The award recipients were (listed alphabetically by award):

AESO Systems Graduate Minority Engineering Award
Elhadj K. Bah
AESO Systems, in cooperation with the Georgia Tech chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers, gives this award to an outstanding graduating minority senior admitted to a graduate school in engineering, preferably for the pursuit of a PhD. Dr. Augustine O. Esogbue, professor, School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, presented the honor.

Armstrong Scholarship
Santiago Aviles
This scholarship is given to a junior or senior in the Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering who has shown excellence in scholarship as well as extracurricular and leadership activities. The award of was presented by Valarie DuRant-Modeste, advisor, Industrial and Systems Engineering.

Briaerean Scholarship Cup
Alendria Prioleau
The Briaerean Honor Society, the co-op honor organization at Georgia Tech, each year honors the graduating senior Briaerean co-op student with the highest grade point average. The cup was presented by Mr. Walid Neaz, president of the Briaerean Society, and Mr. Ken Little, assistant director, Cooperative Education Program.

Chris Lofgren Scholarship

The Lofgren Scholarship is given to seniors in the Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. The award is given in recognition of scholarship and leadership in campus student organizations. The award was presented by Patti Parker, advisor, Industrial and Systems Engineering.

Dow Chemical Scholarship
Chen Liu
The Dow Chemical Scholarship is awarded to a senior in the Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. The award is made on the basis of academic merit and contribution to the School. Dr. Chen Zhou, associate chair, Industrial and Systems Engineering, presented the award.

Frantz Family Young Entrepreneurs Scholarship
Kyle Verzello
The Frantz Family Young Entrepreneurs Scholarship is awarded to an industrial engineering student who is pursuing the world of creating wealth, small business, and financial freedom for themselves while working on their BSIE degree. The recipient has clear business objectives and goals along with the demonstrated determination to pursue and reach those goals. Ms. Maria Frantz, IE 2001, presented the scholarship.

Georgia Tech Society of Black Engineers Faculty Advisor Excellence Award
Alendria Prioleau
This honor is given to a member of the Georgia Tech chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers who has demonstrated outstanding scholarship and leadership qualities. The award was presented by Dr. Augustine O. Esogbue, professor, School of Industrial and Systems Engineering.

Henry Ford II Scholar Award
Tessa Hilterbrandt
This award is made annually to engineering students with the best academic records at the end of the third year of undergraduate study. Dr. Jane Weyant, assistant dean, College of Engineering, presented the honor.

Jack C. Webb Scholarship
Corey Barthelemy, Shawn Emery, Micajah McGarity, Ana Ortiz, Andrew Park
The Webb Scholarship is given to rising juniors or seniors in the Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. The award is based on scholarship, leadership, and extracurricular and community activities. The award was presented by Patti Parker, advisor, Industrial and Systems Engineering.

James G. and Mary G. Wohlford Scholarships
Mark Burgess, Russell Kohler, Katrinna Kujawa, Christine Wang
Named in honor of the late director emeritus of the Cooperative Division and sponsored by the Co-op Club, these scholarships recognize outstanding senior co-ops who have excelled both academically and on their co-op jobs, and who have made significant contributions to the community. The awards were presented by Mr. Harold Simmons, director, Cooperative Education, and Mr. John Lin, treasurer of the Briaerean Honor Society.

Joe T. LaBoon Outstanding Graduating Senior Co-op Award
Alendria Prioleau
This award is in honor of the late Joe. T. LaBoon, ME 1948, former CEO and chairman of the Atlanta Gas Light company, for his contributions to the co-op program as a student and employer of co-ops. It is presented to the outstanding graduating co-op who has excelled in the classroom and on the job, and who has made exemplary contributions to the co-op program. Kenneth Little, assistant director, Cooperative Education Program, will present the award.

Kurt Salmon Associates Scholarship in Industrial and Systems Engineering
Elizabeth Cox, Nathan Frank, Chelsea Leenhouts, Alendria Prioleau, Kathleen Schneck, Bart Stout
A scholarship is given by Kurt Salmon Associates to seniors in the Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. The award is made on the basis of academic merit and contribution in the School. Dr. Chen Zhou, associate chair, Industrial and Systems Engineering, presented the award to these students for their outstanding scholastic achievement.

Paul Eaton Award
Payam Eslami
This award is given to a student who has shown scholarship and contribution to the Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. The gift is given by Mrs. Eaton in memory of her husband, who was a professor emeritus in ISyE and served on the faculty from 1952-1971. The award was presented by Dr. Chen Zhou, associate chair, Industrial and Systems Engineering.

Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering Minorities/Women Scholarship
Alendria Prioleau
The scholarship is given to a minority/woman student in the Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. The award is based on scholarship and leadership. Valarie DuRant-Modeste, advisor, Industrial and Systems Engineering, presented the award.

Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering Undergraduate Award in Health Systems
Najma Shaikh
This scholarship is given to a junior or senior in the Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering who has shown interest in working in the health systems field. The award is given to a student who displays excellent scholarship as well as having worked or done research in health systems. Valarie DuRant-Modeste, advisor, Industrial and Systems Engineering, presented the award.

Tull Metals Minority Scholarship
Ana Ortiz
This scholarship is given to a minority student in the Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. It is based on scholarship and leadership. Patti Parker, advisor, Industrial and Systems Engineering, presented the award to Ana Ortiz.
