"Silicon Earth" Lecture and Book Signing

Primary tabs

"Wrapping Your Brain around the Many Miracles of the Micro/Nanotechnology Revolution"

John D. Cressler, Ken Byers Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, will give a lecture and sign copies of his new book, "Silicon Earth: Introduction to the Microelectronics and Nanotechnology Revolution," at the Georgia Tech Barnes & Noble Bookstore. He teaches a course at Georgia Tech by the same name that is open to students of all majors and backgrounds.

"Silicon Earth" introduces readers with little or no technical background to the many marvels of microelectronics and nanotechnology, using easy-to-understand language and an intuitive approach. The general scientific and engineering underpinnings of Microelectronics and nanotechnology are addressed, as well as how this new technological revolution is transforming a broad array of interdisciplinary fields and civilization as a whole. Special "widget deconstruction" chapters address the inner workings of micro- and nano-enabled pieces of technology such as cell phones, flash drives, GPS, DVDs, and digital cameras. The profound impact of our micro/nano-creations on global civilization, both good and bad, are also discussed.
