Pulping & Bleaching Lab Upgraded

Primary tabs

Rallming Yang joined IPST in January of this year as manager of the pulping and bleaching lab, and has quickly moved to upgrade its capabilities.  He has modified existing equipment to allow separation of C5 and C6 sugars via pretreatment of biomass.  He has also acquired new equipment that expands the capability to hydrolyze biomass.  Whereas the lab previously was able to perform bench-scale pretreatment with acid and alkaline chemistry, Dr. Yang has now added pilot-scale equipment for 50-gallon acid hydrolysis experiments.  The expanded capability will allow the lab to provide additional value to IPST members interested in biorefining.

Dr. Yang holds a Ph.D. in environmental and resource engineering from the State University of New York at Syracuse and a Master of Science degree in pulping and paper engineering from the South China University of Technology.
