Campus Closet Hosts Fashion Evening for 'Buzz-nistas'

Primary tabs

The last thing students want to worry about while navigating a career fair is their wardrobe. With this in mind, Georgia Tech’s Campus Closet and the Center for Career Discovery and Development are hosting Fashion Evening for Buzz-nistas, an event dedicated to helping students dress for success that will take place Jan. 15  from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Student Success Center’s Clary Theater.

Sponsored by Ernst & Young, Macy’s, K&G Clothiers, Redbeam, and Hamper-Haven, Fashion Evening will feature a fashion show as well as fashion consultants who will share their expertise on the business dress code. At the event, Campus Closet will share its new website and electronic rental process, and announce two more career-related events for this semester.

“As a first-year, I’ve had trouble finding things to wear for professional events,” said Lynette To, Campus Closet Ambassador and biomedical engineering student. “Students shouldn’t have to worry about that when they’re worrying about talking to employers and finding jobs.”

Campus Closet was started last year by a group of students who recognized that dressing appropriately for career fairs could be hard for students for a variety of reasons, including financial constraints. Campus Closet lends suits, button-down shirts, blouses, Georgia Tech lapel pins, and padfolios to students for career fairs and interviews.

“There is a high demand for Campus Closet suits at Georgia Tech,” said Kenji Terawaki, the Center for Career Discovery and Development staff advisor for Campus Closet. “Last year we had over 200 rentals.”

Campus Closet is located in the basement of the Student Success Center. With a dressing room and an inventory of more than 200 men’s suits and 150 women’s suits, Campus Closet is equipped for the upcoming career fair. Walk-in hours are Mondays and Fridays from 3 to 6 p.m., and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

To donate a suit or become a Campus Closet volunteer, send an email to gtcampuscloset@gatech.edu.

Those interested in attending Fashion Evening for Buzz-nistas should RSVP on CareerBuzz by Jan. 14.
