Beginning in October, the Office of Information Technology’s Cyber Security team is offering a series of workshops for faculty and staff on safe computing. All workshops will be held on the first Monday of each month from 1 – 2 p.m. in the Peachtree Room of the Student Center.  

As part of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, the OIT Cyber Security team will kick off the series with a workshop on “How Not to Get Caught in the Phishing Net” on Monday, October 6.

 In 2014, Tech saw hundreds of accounts compromised due to phishing attacks. Each attack prevents a victim from accessing is or her account for at least six hours once the account has been compromised. This session will teach users how to spot a phishing attack and what to do if they think they’ve been phished. The Cyber Security series continues on Monday, November 3, with a session on Two-factor Authentication, or 2FA. Many faculty and staff may be required to enter this type of authentication as Tech implements 2FA to protect certain software applications that may contain sensitive information.  The final session, “Protecting Your Best Interest on Social Media,” will be held on Monday, December 1. This session will address how to implement safe computing practices while using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.  Attend one or all of the sessions, and learn how to protect yourself and your data against cyber-attacks. All sessions will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Peachtree Room of the Student Center.
