BIO:
Dr. Casto is a nuclear safety and regulatory professional with 38 years of experience consisting of positions of increasing responsibility including executive, regulatory, technical, and operational areas of responsibility within the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the commercial nuclear power industry, and the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the U.S. Federal Government’s Senior Executive Service at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), where he last held the position of Regional Administrator, U.S. NRC Region III. in 2011, Dr. Casto was chosen as the leader of the NRC’s response to Fukushima.  He traveled to Japan just days after the event and remained there for eleven months. In 2012, President Obama honored his efforts in Japan and his career by awarding Dr. Casto the highest honor given to a federal executive, naming him a 2012 recipient of the Presidential Rank Award for Distinguished Service.
