Students, the Wait is Over: Fall Break Has Arrived

Primary tabs

Fall Break begins this weekend, meaning that classes will not meet on Monday and Tuesday. Students can take this opportunity to visit friends and family, or if they are in town, enjoy a relaxed campus and explore the surrounding city.

There are several events this weekend that are both affordable and fun. Here are a few:

Friday, Oct. 10

Saturday, Oct. 11
  • Georgia Tech Football vs. Duke (12:30 p.m.): Georgia Tech takes on the Duke Blue Devils at home. Cheer on your fellow students in Bobby Dodd Stadium.

Sunday, Oct. 12
  • Diwali at Centennial Olympic Park (11 a.m. – 4 p.m.):
Enjoy an afternoon celebrating the Hindu festival of Diwali, the festival of lights. The program consists of cultural dances, plays, other live performances, and free lunch. The World Hindu Council of America: Atlanta Chapter organizes this annual event, with the help of local Georgia Tech student volunteers, for neighbors of all nationalities. For more information, contact Ragu Veeraraghavan at 404-932-7341.
  • The National Acrobats of The People’s Republic of China (5 p.m.):
An eye-popping spectacle with an array of acrobats, contortionists, martial artists, drummers and dancers, this performance will take place in the Ferst Center for the Arts. Students can purchase tickets at the Ferst Center Box Office for as low as $10. Other prices vary and can be purchased online.

Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 11-12
  • Oktoberfest at Stone Mountain Village (1 – 7 p.m.):
This annual Oktoberfest-ival will include pretzel-eating contests, German music and dancing, food, and, for those of legal age, German beer. General admission to the festival is free; tickets for beer tasting are $30.
  • Atlanta Pride Parade and Festival (10 a.m. – 7 p.m.):
The 44th annual Atlanta Pride festival is a weekend of community activities and service bringing awareness to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in the Southeast. The parade begins at 1:45 p.m. at Piedmont Park.

For those remaining on campus, the Library will continue to be open 24/7. Campus transit will continue its normal schedules of operation, but some parking will be changed due to the football game against Duke on Saturday, Oct. 11.
