The OIE has invited Dr. George Renwick, a U.S./China communications expert to campus to offer seminars for Chinese students as well as GT faculty and administrators on Friday, September 12. Dr. Renwick has consulted for major corporations like Kodak, AT&T, Exxon Chemical, Motorola and Ford (to list a few) in addition to leading workshops for the Summer Institute for Intercultural Communications and institutions of higher education. Registration for the seminar is required due to space limitations.

Dr. Renwick has been working in China on assignments with men and women from the United States for 25 years. He has been working in the U.S. with Chinese employees, teachers and students for 20 years.

His work in Chinese education began when he was on the faculty at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and served as Director of the Summer School, New Asia College.

During eight years full-time in his master's and doctoral programs, he studied Anthropology, Social Psychology, Communication, Comparative Religions, Organizational Development, and Chinese Studies. Since then, his research has continued to be interdisciplinary. He draws from each of these disciplines the insights and practical guidelines essential to Westerners and Chinese when they are working and learning together.

George travels frequently to China and has conducted seminars and coaching sessions on effective intercultural communication in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Qinhuangdao, Hong Kong, Taipei and Taichung.

For six years he has conducted a workshop (China: Encountering the Culture of a Rising Power) at the Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication in Portland, Oregon. Participants have included university administrators, teachers and trainers, diplomats and managers. He recently conducted the same workshop at the first Winter Institute in Charlotte, North Carolina. Most of the participants in that workshop have responsibilities for Chinese 
and other international students on their campuses.

George originally became interested in China through his mother. She, her three sisters and their mother traveled in China before the Communist Revolution.
