Purchase Your Parking Permit in The Driver’s Seat

Primary tabs

The Driver’s Seat is Parking and Transportation Services’ new online portal for Georgia Tech parking permit purchases. Students (including first-year freshmen) who will need parking permits for 2014-2015 should log in to driverseat.gatech.edu using their Georgia Tech username and password to purchase Annual Individual, Annual Carpool, Evening/Weekend, Motorcycle and SmartPark permits.

Permit Renewals: April 1-15

To guarantee parking locations for next academic year, students may renew their current Annual Individual Parking Permits between Tuesday, April 1 (8:00 a.m.) and Tuesday, April 15, 2014 (11:59 p.m.). Customers who miss this renewal period may not receive the same permit location for 2014-2015.

Permit Purchases: April 21

Permit sales open for 2014-2015 Annual Individual, Evening/Weekend, SmartPark, and Motorcycle Permits on Monday, April 21 at 8:00 a.m. Existing permit customers who want to change locations or permit types AND new permit customers should make their purchases starting April 21.

Annual Individual Permits will be sold first come, first serve (based on classification), so students should log on early to purchase their desired permit. During their transaction, students will know immediately which parking lot they will be assigned to as well as their permit number. Permits sales will be open year-round after April 21; however, several locations may have limited availability as the year progresses.

Paying for Permits

Below are the prices for the 2014-2015 parking permits available at driverseat.gatech.edu:

  • Annual Individual Permit: $739
  • Carpool Permit: $639
  • Evening/Weekend Permit (5PM Access): $212
  • Evening /Weekend (4PM Access): $312
  • Evening/Weekend (3PM Access): $412
  • Evening/Weekend (2PM Access): $512
  • Motorcycle Permit (primary vehicle): $128
  • SmartPark Permit: $25 (plus $6 per entry from BuzzCard)

All student payments will be transferred to the Bursar’s office to be paid with Fall 2014 tuition and fees.

Wait Lists Open April 21

Because permits are sold first come, first serve, many of the high-demand parking locations may be sold out early on April 21. Students may add themselves to permit wait lists for unavailable locations for the chance to park there later in the 2014-2015 academic year. Once space is available, students will be notified of their right to purchase permits for their wait list locations. Wait lists are open year-round and carry over year to year.

Preparing for Your Permit Purchase

Before April, students are encouraged to complete the following tasks at driverseat.gatech.edu before they purchase a permit:

1. Update permit mailing address: Students may have their 2014-2015 permits mailed to their home addresses or to their campus addresses. The official campus mailing address for students is their Georgia Tech post office box address in the Student Center. Students living on campus (including those living in Family Housing, Graduate Living Center, Tenth and Home and Greek houses) should use their Georgia Tech post office box address to receive their permits on campus.

2. Update vehicle information: Any vehicle that a student may drive to campus (including parent’s vehicles, rental cars, etc.) may be registered so that permits are always associated with them. Missing or erroneous vehicle information may result in citations. Vehicle information may be added or updated year round.

3. Pay existing citations: Pay any existing citation fines at driverseat.gatech.edu before purchasing a permit. Students will be able to complete a permit purchase online; however, permits will not be mailed/released before all fines are paid.

4. Know what permit location/type you want for 2014-2015: Permits selected in The Driver’s Seat are purchased—not reserved. A fee of $25 will apply to any returned permits. Visit pts.gatech.edu and click on Parking Map to view the available parking areas for 2014-2015.

Many details about our permit purchasing process have changed since last spring. All students are encouraged to visit pts.gatech.edu to review these details before making their permit selections for the upcoming year.
