Dr. Shatakshee Dhongde addresses GT Silver Jackets

Primary tabs

Dr. Shatakshee Dhongde was invited to deliver a lecture on the topic of "Concentration of Income Impact of the Great Recession on U.S. Income Distribution" to the Georgia Tech Silver Jackets on January 8 2013.  The Silver Jackets is an organization for retired Georgia Tech faculty and staff.  Monthly meetings feature guest speakers on a wide range of topics.  Using latest data available, Dr. Dhongde analyzed the rise of disparity by race, by age and by geographic location.  The U.S. has experienced an extended period of rapidly rising inequality since the 1970s.  The Great Recession during 2007-2009 further accentuated the rise in inequality by shrinking the size of the middle class.

Dr. Dongde is an Assistant Professor in the School of Economics at Georgia Tech.  Her research analyzes globalization and its impact on economic growth, poverty, inequality, and segregation.
