Daily Digest Template Co-opted for External Phishing Attack

Primary tabs

Earlier today, an email with the subject “URGENT INFORMATION” included visual references to the Daily Digest. The message read:

We are upgrading our servers and will delete inactive accounts to continue using this account, click here and fill the information to verify your account.

This email is a phishing attempt, and was not sent by anyone affiliated with Georgia Tech. It was sent by an outside entity via a compromised Georgia Tech email account. It should be deleted immediately. Additionally, the Information Security Directorate within the Office of Information Technology has taken steps to mitigate the risk. Anyone who followed the link is asked to call the OIT Technical Support Center (404-894-7173) immediately.

Messages that appear to come from Georgia Tech asking for account or password information will never be valid messages. OIT reminds users to always check suspicious messages out before clicking on any links or opening any attached files.
