Preparation, education and training can help employers and employees avoid serious on-the-job safety hazards while learning the latest occupational safety and health standards.  Georgia Tech Professional Education will offer aTrainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry and Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry on Oct. 29 - Nov. 2, 2012 at Georgia Tech-Savannah to share important OSHA’s standards that impact many industries.

Participants in the OSHA Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (OTI 500) course will learn about hazard communication, health hazards and personal protective equipment. They will gain the skills to identify hazards that occur in the construction industry and determine appropriate standards, and properly prepare reports when conditions are found. This course is for private-sector workers interested in developing safety and health programs in construction. All participants are required to complete the Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry course prior to registering for the course and have five years of construction safety experience. Students in the OSHA Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (OTI 501)will focus on the OSHA Act and various codes, how to properly write citations and proposed penalties, fire protection and electrical safety standards. The course will include techniques in hazard communication, industrial hygiene, ergonomics and recordkeeping. This course is geared towards private-sector personnel that work in any other industry outside of construction. Participants are required to complete the Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the General Industry course and have five years of general industry safety experience. Completion of each course and the appropriate test certifies students to be Construction Industry Outreach Trainers or General Industry Voluntary Compliance Outreach Trainers. Trainers have the ability to teach effective safety and health training programs in accordance with OSHA's standards, regulations, and guidelines. This certification is highly respected by many companies across the nation.
