Volkan Alkanoglu is the founding principal of Volkan Alkanoglu | DESIGN LLC and has a  uniquely international background. He was born in Turkey, raised in Germany, and studied architecture at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin, the Peter Behrens School of Architecture in Düsseldorf, and received his Master of Architectural Design degree with Distinction at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London.

His research and design work has been exhibited at several institutions including the Royal Academy of Arts in London and has been featured in international publications. In 2006, he was nominated for the Young Architect of the Year Award in the UK in recognition of exceptional contributions to the progress of architecture. Volkan Alkanoglu has collaborated as a Designer and Architect in several architectural practices in Germany, the United Kingdom, and the USA. During his tenure as a Project Director and Project Architect, he worked on many award winning projects with highly acclaimed international status.

He is currently serving on the design and visual studies faculty at  the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc)  in Los Angeles, California. He is also as TVS Design Distinguished Critic in the Georgia Tech School of Architecture.

Volkan Alkanoglu is a registered Architect with the AKNW (Architektenkammer Nordrhein-Westfalen) in Germany, and a LEED Accredited Professional (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) in the USA.
