Sophomore Programs: Helping Students Continue to Thrive in Their Second Year

Primary tabs

Congratulations to all parents of second-year students! Actually, all parents of Tech students deserve a big round of applause, but I would like to extend a special shout-out to parents of students who are entering their second year at Tech. As you know, this is quite an accomplishment and New Student & Sophomore Programs (NSSP) is committed to helping your student continue that success in their second year with our Sophomore Programs.

With Sophomore Programs we are focused on keeping your student involved and informed during their second year so that they can continue to be successful and engaged in their Georgia Tech career. We do this through a variety of programs that touch on the different areas of your student’s experience, and that focus on building your student’s involvement in continuing to build his or her community at Tech. Furthermore, we also have programs that center on topics relevant to sophomores, such as career exploration, internships/co-ops, and leadership development.

Two programs that we would like to highlight this year are the Sophomore Career Experience and Year 2 at Tech Newsletter.

This fall, Sophomore Programs will take on a new cohort of second year students to be part of the Sophomore Career Experience 2012. This program is a partnership between NSSP, the Division of Professional Practice, Career Services, and the GT Alumni Association. It features all the programming and information your student needs to be successful in their internship and co-op search. During the fall semester, the bi-weekly programming will feature sessions on resumes, effective interviewing, and even a session on networking and mentoring. Furthermore, NSSP will help your student learn more about themselves through leadership development and community building activities among the Sophomore Career Experience cohort. This is a program that your student does not want to miss! Applications are now available online at nssp.gatech.edu.

One other item from our office your student should take notice of is the Year 2 at Tech Newsletter. This monthly newsletter keeps your student informed of NSSP and campus events that are relevant for our second-year students. Additionally, the newsletter contains features from various campus offices of note, such as the Division of Professional Practice and Career Services, which can help your student thrive in their sophomore year. This is one great resource for your student!

NSSP is committed to your student’s success, and we would love to hear from you. For more information on our programs and staff, check out our website at nssp.gatech.edu or give our office a call at 404-894-6897.
