Buzzworthy Achievements

The following Georgia Tech employees or units have been honored in recent months:    

  • Chamber Music America has selected the Ferst Center for the Arts to receive a Residency Partnership Grant for its 2012-13 ARTech Residency with post-classical string quartet, Ethel.

  • Hans Klein, an associate professor in the School of Public Policy, has been appointed by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood to the Intelligent Transportation Systems Program Advisory Committee.

  • Marilyn Brown, a professor in the School of Public Policy, has been named an inaugural ambassador in the U.S. Department of Energy/MIT Women in Clean Energy Program for the United States. 

  • Saibal Mukhopadhyay, an assistant professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been awarded a 2012 Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award. 

  • Mark Hay, Teasley Professor of Environmental Biology in the School of Biology and co-director of the Center for Aquatic Chemical Ecology at Georgia Tech, was awarded the 2012 Robert L. and Bettie P. Cody Award in Ocean Sciences from Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego.

  • The North Avenue Dining Hall received an Award of Excellence from the Atlanta Urban Design Commission.

  • Thomas Gaylord, Regents Professor and Julius Brown Chair Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been named as one of the 50 most published authors of Applied Optics, a publication of the Optical Society of America.

  • Steve Hackman and Joel Sokol, associate professors in the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, took first place in the Innovations in Curriculum Competition sponsored by the Institute of Industrial Engineers.

  • Bobby Braun, the David and Andrew Lewis Professor of Space Technology in the School of Aerospace Engineering, received the 2012 Al Seiff Award at the ninth International Planetary Probe Workshop in Toulouse, France. 

  • Howard Werthheimer, director of capital planning and space management, was elected to the American Institute of Architect’s College of Fellows.  

  • Page Siplon, executive director of the Georgia Center of Innovation for Logistics, has been named to DC Velocity Magazine’s 2012 Rainmaker list of the top 10 industry professionals in the country.

  • David Gottfried, senior research scientist in the Institute for Electronics and Nanotechnology, has been selected to be a fellow by the American Chemical Society.
