Ferrari on 'The Republia Times' Game and Propaganda

External News Details

"It's hard to classify [the game 'The Republia Times'] as any proper type of newsgame, whether that be an editorial game or a literacy-building game," writes Simon Ferrari, a 2010 Knight News Challenge Winner and Digital Media Ph.D. student in the School of Literature, Communication, and Culture. Ferrari continues, "But it's easy to imagine it as a successful prototype for a more thorough critique of the propaganda model of contemporary news media -- or even as the basis of a competitive multiplayer game about the risks and rewards of toeing the party line in a media ecology where there's more than one news source."
