Imaging Chemical Reactions Inside Living Cells

School Colloquium

Cellular health depends on a countless number of chemical reactions. Recent developments in microscopy, materials science, and molecular biology have created a unique opportunity to understand the chemical reactions essential to cellular function by directly imaging biomolecules as they perform their normal functions within the cell. Research in the Payne Lab is focused on both understanding intracellular chemical reactions and developing new methods for imaging dynamic events within live cells. This seminar will discuss the intracellular degradation of low-density lipoprotein probed with two-color single particle tracking fluorescence microscopy and the role of serum proteins in mediating nanoparticle-cell interactions.
