Soft Lithography for Rapid Prototyping of Micro-/Nanoscale Structures and Patterns

Soft lithography represents a conceptually new approach to the fabrication and rapid prototyping of various micro-/nanoscale structures on planar, curved, and/or flexible substrates at low costs. This technology embraces a wide variety of materials, generates well-defined surface chemistries, and is generally compatible with biological applications. In this talk, I will focus my discussion on micro-contact printing, replica molding, and solvent-assisted imprinting enabled by a simple elastomeric stamp. My goal is to introduce fundamentals of the selected techniques, promote the multidisciplinary value of soft lithography, and elucidate the possibilities to engage researchers from a broad range of disciplines to develop potential applications for microfluidics, adaptive optics, plasmonic sensors, and cell biology.
