Patents are a vital source of information on new innovations and emerging technologies. This seminar covers the basics of patent documentation, classification, and public web-based search tools, including U.S. patent and international patent resources. Through demos and hands-on practice, students will learn how to conduct a preliminary patent search using the 7-step strategies. Useful patent research tools, such as PubWest and CASSIS, will also be discussed as time permits.
