First, free standing nanocomposite structures were fabricated with layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly from conjugated polyelectrolytes and inorganic nanoparticles\u003Csup\u003E1\u003C\/sup\u003E.  To this end, we discuss conjugated LbL films\u003Csup\u003E2\u003C\/sup\u003E, perforated nanoscale films\u003Csup\u003E3\u003C\/sup\u003E, and 2D porous SERS substrates\u003Csup\u003E4\u003C\/sup\u003E.  Second, we summarize our recent studies of highly branched molecules with multifunctional branched architectures.  Here, we show the formation one-dimensional molecular structures from hyperbranched polyol amphiphiles\u003Csup\u003E5\u003C\/sup\u003E, peculiar star-shaped aggregates from rod-coil phenylbenzoate molecules\u003Csup\u003E6\u003C\/sup\u003E, star molecules as wraps for gold-silver nanocobs as 1D Raman markers\u003Csup\u003E7\u003C\/sup\u003E; and amorphous monolayers from amphiphilic bithiophene monodendrons with high quantum yield\u003Csup\u003E8\u003C\/sup\u003E.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n------------------------------\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n1  C.
