\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EAfter obtaining his B.S. and\nPh.D. in Chemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Steve joined\nMonsanto in 1984, focusing on the development of enzymes and genes to confer\nglyphosate-tolerance to crop plants. \u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;Steve\nis co-inventor of the gene which confers the Roundup Ready\u003Csup\u003E\u00ae\u003C\/sup\u003E (RR) trait,\nthe most widely-used biotechnology trait in agriculture, and led the FDA and\nUSDA regulatory science safety studies for RR soybean, cotton and canola.\u0026nbsp; Following several years of research in plant\nmetabolic engineering and co-leadership of the Soybean Business Team, Steve assumed\nthe role of Vice President, Biotechnology in 1998. \u0026nbsp;During Steve\u2019s tenure, Monsanto Biotechnology\nstrengthened its industry-leading position in the discovery, development and\ncommercialization of crop biotechnology traits.\u0026nbsp;\nSteve assumed his current role in Monsanto\u2019s Global Strategy Group in\n2011 and has responsibility for technology-rich growth opportunities and Monsanto\u2019s\ncorporate venture capital program, including the Monsanto \u2013 Atlas Venture Seed\nFund Alliance in Cambridge, MA.\u0026nbsp; Steve is\na member of the Board of Directors of RaNA Therapeutics, Inc., and he serves as\nChair of the External Advisory Board, Georgia Institute of Technology Institute\nfor Bioengineering and Bioscience.\u0026nbsp;
