An IVUS catheter that can provide forward-viewing volumetric ultrasound images would be an invaluable clinical tool for guiding interventions in coronary arteries for treatment of chronic total occlusions and for helping stent deployment. In this talk, we describe design, fabrication and testing of a forward-viewing IVUS system where all the main functionalities of transmitting and receiving ultrasonic waves in the 10-20MHz range with more than 100 array elements are integrated in a 1.5mm diameter donut shaped silicon chip.

About the Speaker:
F. Levent Degertekin is the George W. Woodruff Chair in Mechanical Systems and Professor in the G.W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech with a joint appointment in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1997 from Stanford University. His research interests are in micromachined acoustic transducers, particularly CMUTs, opto-acoustic devices, ultrasound imaging, MEMS metrology, bioanalytical instruments, and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Dr. Degertekin holds 42 U.S. patents and has authored over 150 scientific publications.

Microscale Integrated Systems for Ultrasound Imaging and Sensing in Coronary Arteries"

Microscale Integrated Systems for Ultrasound Imaging and Sensing in Coronary Arteries"
mailto:paul.turgeon@mirc.gatech.edu">Paul Turgeon
Microelectronics Research Center
404-894-4005
