{"74271":{"#nid":"74271","#data":{"type":"news","title":"College of Computing Releases 2011 Holiday Gift Guide","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EWhat makes a perfect holiday gift for the technology enthusiast? \nThere are hundreds of lists out there that showcase the hottest \nelectronics and \u201cmust-have\u201d devices for this year\u2019s holiday season. \nHowever, for those hard-core technophiles who are truly \nahead of the curve, smartphones and tablet computers are so last year. \nWith ten shopping days left, the Georgia Tech College of Computing \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.cc.gatech.edu\/holiday-gift-guide\u0022\u003Ehas released its own unique spin on the traditional holiday gift guide\u003C\/a\u003E,\n showcasing some of the year\u2019s biggest research stories and providing \ntop technologists with all sorts of \u201cgift\u201d ideas for this holiday \nseason.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThey sometimes bristle at being called \u2018elves,\u2019 but we\u2019ve\n got a College full of faculty and students who\u2019ve been working very \nhard on these projects all year,\u201d said Zvi Galil, John P. Imlay Jr. Dean\n of Computing. \u201cWe are, obviously, having a bit of fun in showcasing our\n research like this, but there\u2019s also a serious point. Part of our \nmission is to help improve the world through education and research, and\n the projects in this Gift Guide can legitimately be counted among our \nefforts to give back to society\u2014indeed, some are explicitly intended as \ncomputational ways to serve the social good.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Gift Guide \nincludes projects created by students and faculty in the College and its\n three constituent schools: the School of Computer Science, the School \nof Interactive Computing and the School of Computational Science and \nEngineering.
