City of Decatur Links Health & Transportation

The City of Decatur, which has recently become one of the most desirable places to live in metro Atlanta, is undertaking a Community Transportation Plan to make Active Living a serious part of their transprotation system. Georgia Tech's Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development (CQGRD) is partnering with Sycamore Consulting, Inc. and Kimley Horn and Associates to help the City develop the plan, dubbed "Decatur Gets Around" by city officials.

Decatur hopes that through this plan they can become an "active living community." An active living community is one that is planned and designed with a focus on pedestrians and bicyclists and enables people of all ages and abilities to engage in routine daily physical activity.

CQGRD and its partners began the Community Transportation Plan in September of 2006 and will wrap up their work in spring 2007.
