In the interview, Dr. Ross discusses the idea of the "megaregion" and how it could be useful in guiding future decisions about infrastructure, planning, economic development, and resource allocation, not just for Georgia but for the entire region. Since 2005 Dr. Ross and researchers at CQGRD and Georgia Tech have been investigating the Piedmont Atlantic megaregion, stretching from Birmingham to Charlotte, and how making decisions at the megaregional level could help position the megaregion and its cities to be competitive in the global economy. In January 2006 CQGRD hosted a two-day symposium of political, civic, and business leaders from throughout the megaregion, and Dr. Ross is currently leading a team of scholars from around the world to write a book on the future of megaregions.
