{"72110":{"#nid":"72110","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Staff Invited to Apply for Oxford Program","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EIf you are a staff member who enjoys traveling and doesn\u2019t mind supervising a group of Georgia Tech students, consider applying to be a group leader for the 2012 Oxford Study Abroad Program. \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cI had heard about the trip from other colleagues across campus who had gone as group leaders,\u201d said Stephanie Knight, interim director of the Office of Student Involvement. \u201cEveryone had the same message, \u2018It will be the hardest summer of your life, but also the most incredible.\u2019\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EKnight, who went on the trip in summer\u0026nbsp; 2011, acknowledged that as a group leader, you have to be prepared to adapt to a variety of situations. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EBut, she also came away with lasting memories including one of an evening when Knight and her fellow leaders watched the sun set at the Eiffel Tower with a group of students. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cIt was a very surreal moment,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s easy to get caught up in all of the logistics of the program, and that evening was a reminder of my motivation to apply for the trip in the first place.\u201d \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EFrom May 21 to June 25, leaders will accompany the students in the program to eight continental European cities over the course of 30 days, with their duties ranging from confirming museum reservations to liaising with the dean of students regarding student disciplinary issues. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EOnce the students arrive in Oxford, the group leaders\u2019 duties will conclude.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EGroup leaders must have approval from their home departments in order to be paid while away from the Atlanta campus. Also, leaders must be available to attend a minimum of five training sessions and meetings during the spring semester. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe deadline to apply to be a group leader is Nov. 28.
