{"70967":{"#nid":"70967","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Presidential Manufacturing Initiative Holds Regional Meeting at Georgia Tech","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe President\u2019s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) Working Group on Advanced Manufacturing is holding its first regional meeting at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 14, 2011.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (AMP) is a national effort bringing together the federal government, industry, universities and other stakeholders to identify and invest in emerging technologies with the potential to create high-quality domestic manufacturing jobs and enhance the global competitiveness of the United States.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EPresident Barack Obama launched AMP this summer in response to recommendations from the PCAST. The report concluded that by investing strategically in the fast-moving field of advance manufacturing, the U.S. can not only strengthen its global position, but also generate high-paying jobs, support domestic innovation and bolster national security.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech\u0026nbsp;President G. P. \u201cBud\u201d Peterson and the presidents of\u0026nbsp;five other world-class universities serve on the AMP Steering Committee, which will provide\u0026nbsp;recommendations to the PCAST\u0026nbsp;on how to catalyze investment in and deployment of emerging technologies.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EDuring the AMP regional meeting, attendees will have an opportunity to provide thoughts on technology development, education and workforce development, facility and infrastructure sharing, and policies that could create a fertile environment for innovation.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EPeterson will give a welcome at the meeting.
