{"70391":{"#nid":"70391","#data":{"type":"event","title":"Mexico Trade and Logistics Innovation Center Inauguration","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe Georgia Institute of Technology and Tecnologico de Monterrey are launching the Trade\n  \u0026amp; Logistics Innovation Center in Mexico City with an inauguration ceremony\n  from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Sept. 30.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThe center, which is a partnership between the two institutions, will focus on improving\n  Mexico\u0027s logistics performance and increasing trade competitiveness.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThe ceremony will be held at Tecnologico de\n  Monterrey\u0027s Sante Fe campus, located at Av. Carlos Loza No. 100 Col., Santa Fe,\n  Mexico, DF 01389. The event will begin with a light brunch, followed by the\n  official launch of the center and tour of Innovation Park.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0022In order for us to continue our global positioning, we have to understand the supply\n  chain from an international perspective,\u0022 said Jaymie Forrest, managing\n  director of the Georgia Tech Supply Chain \u0026amp; Logistics Institute.  \u0022It is essential that there be in-depth\n  knowledge of major trading partners such as Mexico for Georgia Tech to be the\n  leader in international trade.\u0022\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Trade \u0026amp; Logistics Center in Mexico City is the fourth addition to Georgia\n  Tech\u0027s international network of innovation and logistical centers.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Supply Chain \u0026amp; Logistics Institute at Georgia Tech\u0027s H. Milton Stewart\n  School of Industrial and Systems Engineering in Atlanta is the main center of\n  the network. Three international centers are currently operating in Singapore,\n  Costa Rica and Panama. Each center supports the competitiveness agenda of the\n  country.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EA country\u0027s productivity, as influenced by logistics performance, is critical to\n  its global competitiveness. The World Bank\u0027s annual Logistics Performance Index\n  ranks the United States 15th, Mexico 50th, Panama 51st and Costa Rica 56th in the world in logistics performance. A clear\n  need exists to improve these rankings through more effective and productive\n  logistics, Forrest said. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ELike the others, the new center in Mexico City will focus on three areas \u2013\n  education, research and industry growth.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0022We\u0027re going to provide education and research to make sure Mexico has the capacity to\n  do it on its own,\u0022 said Miguel Martinez, executive director of the Mexico\n  center.  \u0022The fact that an institution\n  like Georgia Tech is involved will help us get there faster with proven\n  methodologies and success in other countries.\u0022\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThe center will offer professional and executive education on logistics and trade,\n  the same extensive curriculum offered by the Supply Chain \u0026amp; Logistics\n  Institute at Georgia Tech. That includes comprehensive programs in lean supply\n  chain, transportation, warehousing, inventory, trade and supply chain strategy.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EFor its research agenda, the center will work on projects for Mexico\u0027s federal\n  government in several areas, such as disaster management and humanitarian\n  logistics and improvement of the food and beverage supply chains. The center\u0027s\n  research areas will also include warehouse distribution and logistics,\n  logistics and manufacturing, supply chain for emerging economies and\n  information technologies for supply chain management.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ETo reach Mexico\u0027s industry base, the center will be partnering with one of\n  Mexico\u0027s largest business associations to develop education programs and tools\n  for its members, so they have a better understanding of logistics and how it affects\n  them.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0022The goal is to better prepare our infrastructure and our industries to be\n  competitive at the local level and for export,\u0022 Martinez said.  \u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThe center is a win-win for all involved, Forrest said. The countries benefit by\n  leveraging Georgia Tech\u0027s expertise to improve logistics performances, which is\n  the foundation for competitiveness and trade.
