70356 news 1317223685 1475896214 <![CDATA[Swann Serves as a Discussion Leader During World Economic Forum]]> Julie Swann, associate professor in the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) and center co-director of the Georgia Tech Health and Humanitarian Logistics Center, was a discussion leader during the World Economic Forum for a session entitled “Responding to Extreme Events” on April 28.  The session covered several key discussion points which included natural disaster preparedness, quick response mechanisms, effective long-term partnerships, regional coordination, and lessons from the recent earthquakes in Chile, Haiti, and Japan.

The World Economic Forum was held in Rio de Janerio, Brazil on April 27-29.  Sessions are designed to promote interaction between discussion leaders and participants, facilitating discussion on challenging and complex issues.

Dr. Swann focuses on developing models and analytical methods to solve problems in logistics and supply chain management, and inform decisions in health systems and policymaking.  Dr. Swann’s research areas intersect in her work in humanitarian supply chains. In this area, she is developing educational and outreach programs to governmental and non-governmental organizations that are involved in planning for and responding to health and humanitarian crises.
