This talk presents multilevel quantum algorithms that estimate these quantities directly for elliptic and parabolic PDEs. The key idea is to encode fine\u2013coarse cancellation before measurement, allowing small corrections to offset mesh-dependent costs. Under suitable approximation and quantum-access assumptions, the resulting algorithms reduce polynomial dependence on spatial resolution to polylogarithmic dependence. I will discuss connections with multigrid, hierarchical bases, and quantum preconditioning, and outline opportunities in stochastic dynamics, PDE inference, and design under uncertainty.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E","format":"limited_html"}],"field_summary_sentence":[{"value":"Assessing quantum advantage for partial differential equations requires accounting for data preparation, quantum computation, and the estimation of physical observables such as averages, fluxes, and energies."}],"uid":"36562","created_gmt":"2026-10-27 15:38:12","changed_gmt":"2026-10-27 15:39:22","author":"tnevels9","boilerplate_text":"","field_publication":"","field_article_url":"","field_event_time":{"event_time_start":"2026-11-19T11:00:00-05:00","event_time_end":"2026-11-19T12:00:00-05:00","event_time_end_last":"2026-11-19T12:00:00-05:00","gmt_time_start":"2026-11-19 16:00:00","gmt_time_end":"2026-11-19 17:00:00","gmt_time_end_last":"2026-11-19 17:00:00","rrule":null,"timezone":"America\/New_York"},"location":"Howey Building W-401\u00a0","extras":[],"groups":[{"id":"126011","name":"School of Physics"}],"categories":[],"keywords":[],"core_research_areas":[],"news_room_topics":[],"event_categories":[{"id":"1795","name":"Seminar\/Lecture\/Colloquium"}],"invited_audience":[{"id":"78761","name":"Faculty\/Staff"},{"id":"177814","name":"Postdoc"},{"id":"174045","name":"Graduate students"},{"id":"78751","name":"Undergraduate students"}],"affiliations":[],"classification":[],"areas_of_expertise":[],"news_and_recent_appearances":[],"phone":[],"contact":[],"email":[],"slides":[],"orientation":[],"userdata":""}}}
