Introducing the Group Project Playbook

Group projects: love them or hate them, they’re an essential part of learning to solve problems in a collaborative environment. While poorly designed group assignments can cause student frustration, effective projects sharpen understanding and teach students how to listen to and learn from others.

Under Tech’s Transformative Teaching and Learning (TTL) strategic initiative, a group of experienced faculty have compiled the Group Project Playbook. The Playbook provides practical design and facilitation strategies for instructors interested in maximizing group project impact.

“I appreciate receiving such a well-organized collection of resources, best practices, and practical recommendations for designing and managing course projects while minimizing common challenges,” said Tatiana Rudchenko, principal lecturer in the Scheller College of Business.

Kate Williams, associate director of Transformative Teaching and Learning, notes “our annual CTL teaching survey shows collaborative learning is the most-often used high-impact teaching practice at Georgia Tech. We hope the Group Project Playbook – created by faculty, for faculty – will help instructors plan, facilitate, and evaluate group projects.”

Download the Group Project Playbook.

The Playbook was developed by the TTL Champions, a grant-funded faculty cohort.
